Can cats get depression?

Yes. Cats can get depression. Cats, like people, are mammals. In addition to physical health, they also pursue mental health. Moreover, cats are thoughtful animals. In many cases, they often don’t know what they are thinking about at the moment. Sometimes they are depressed, sometimes coquettish, sometimes active, and sometimes quiet. First of all, like humans, cats also have separation anxiety. After cats leave their owners for a long time, they may also feel longing or insecure, which may lead to depression. Secondly, cats who stay at home for a long time and lack the companionship and relationship of their owners will suffer from similar depression.

Symptoms of cat depression:

1. Abnormal hair loss. Although most cats will shed hair, if cats suffer from depression, they will have abnormal hair loss, and they may also have the same skin, with patches of hair falling out here and there.

2. Cats suffering from depression seem to have no interest in anything, including the interactive games they usually like, the food and snacks they like to eat, etc.

3. Sleeping for too long. Under normal circumstances, the average sleep time of a cat is about 16 hours a day. If your owner’s sleep time seriously exceeds this average for a period of time, it may be a sign of cat depression.

4. At a certain time, the usually docile and well-behaved cat attacks all people or other animals including its owner for no reason, and becomes extremely irritable. This shows that its depression has already begun. It's very serious, it is using such violent means to vent its repression.
