3 common ways to choose dogs

Three common ways to choose dogs

There are generally three methods for selecting dogs, each with its own advantages and disadvantages. Here is a brief introduction to these three common methods for selecting dogs:

1. Selection of dogs of the same species that are not close relatives

This is the most common method of dog selection. It only needs to meet two conditions: 1. The same dog breed; 2. The mating of male and female dogs that are related for more than 5 generations.

This kind of mating can maintain certain advantages while avoiding the disadvantages of inbreeding. It is a very popular selection method.

2. Hybrid selection

Crossbreeding involves using different types of dogs to produce offspring.

The advantage of cross-breeding is that it can produce hybrid vigor. Such puppies are very "firm" and are "hybrid" just like humans. Such puppies will have better vitality and production performance and are less likely to get sick.

But unfortunately, the names of these puppies are not very pleasant, and they are often called "Chuan'er" or "mutt dog". At the same time, it is often difficult to participate in various dog competitions because of impure blood. If you are concerned about your dog's pedigree, don't let your dog be mated this way.

3. Selection of close relatives

Inbreeding means that the male and female dogs have a close blood relationship, such as: father and daughter, mother and son, brother and sister, half-mother, half-father. The purpose is to obtain excellent genetics and fix the dog's traits.

However, this shortcoming is also obvious and often leads to a large number of genetic diseases, such as: frailty, multiple diseases, poor life expectancy, low pregnancy rate, few litters, unstable temperament, congenital defects (such as missing teeth, cleft palate) , deformity, inverted eyelashes, blindness, deafness, cryptorchidism) and other phenomena.

Of course, it is not absolutely impossible to use inbreeding. By taking advantage of certain characteristics of inbreeding, it is easy to purify, and you can screen a large amount of materials to cultivate ideal pure breeds. But under normal circumstances, if you have no need to breed purebred dogs or compete in competitions, it is recommended that you try to avoid this method.
