Causes of Samoyed odor: Oral diseases
When a Samoyed eats, food residues remain between the teeth, causing a certain odor in the mouth. But this is not the main reason why Samoyeds smell bad. Because saliva can quickly wash away food residues. Generally speaking, bad breath in Samoyeds is caused by periodontal disease. Periodontal disease is caused by the accumulation of dental plaque and tartar between the teeth. Bacteria survive and multiply in the warm and moist mouth, and they release substances containing sulfur, which is the source of the odor. If your Samoyed has body odor caused by this situation, it is best to go to a pet hospital. As long as the oral disease is cured, the Samoyed will naturally have no bad smell. At the same time, be careful not to forget to brush your Samoyed dog’s teeth every day, which can reduce many dogs’ oral diseases.
The reason why Samoyeds smell bad: anal gland inflammation
Samoyeds stay at home for a long time. Because they do not exercise much and their leg muscle strength is reduced, they cannot push out excess anal gland fluid. Go out, causing the anal glands to accumulate and become blocked and swollen. This creates an unpleasant odor. If this is the case, the owner can just squeeze out the secretions from the glands when bathing the Samoyed. The specific method is to wear disposable gloves when taking a bath, place your index finger at the 4 o'clock and 8 o'clock directions of the Samoyed's anus, and gently squeeze it with your thumb. It will be difficult to squeeze at the beginning. If you use a little force, your dog may feel some pain and discomfort. It will be better after squeezing a few times.
Causes of Samoyed’s body odor: other reasons
If your Samoyed’s ears are infested with mites or become inflamed, they will also produce a stink. In daily life, you can use ear cleaner to clean Samoyed’s earwax and reduce odor. Another source of body odor is stomach qi, such as indigestion and disharmony between the spleen and stomach, which can cause bad breath in Samoyeds. If there is a skin disease or a wound on the Samoyed's skin, it is very common to have a peculiar smell. Staphylococcus infection is more common. At the same time, if a dog is not bathed for a long time, just like human skin, it will also cause the skin to be greasy and smelly.
