The tongue of a Shiba Inu is generally pink. If the tongue of a Shiba Inu is black, it may be caused by melanin deposition. If there are no other abnormal phenomena, it is normal. A Shiba Inu with a black tongue may not be a purebred Shiba Inu, but the Shiba Inu’s tongue will have purple spots, which will not be many or large.

If the Shiba Inu’s tongue is pink at first and then turns black, it may be caused by eating some poisonous food by mistake. Shiba Inu suffers from heart disease, which can also cause Shiba Inu's tongue to turn black.
