The virus can generally survive on paws licked by cats for 6-15 seconds. Do not approach stray cats at will to avoid being scratched. If you are scratched by a rabid cat, you need to go to the hospital immediately for a rabies vaccine injection. It should not take more than 24 hours. Early treatment is required, otherwise serious viral infection will cause physical discomfort.
