Can cats be born with rabies virus?

Cats are not born with rabies virus. The main way for cats to be infected with rabies virus is through acquired diagnosis, such as animal bites during the onset period, which will cause cats to carry rabies virus. However, owners must take precautions against rabies. Taking their cats for rabies vaccinations in a timely manner and preventing cats from coming into contact with stray animals are all effective measures.

To determine whether a cat has rabies, you can use the following aspects:

Prodromal period: 1 to 2 days. Cats lack characteristic symptoms and are easily ignored. . It mainly presents mild abnormalities, including sensitive temperament, abnormal behavior, irritability, not listening to calls, and itching at the bite site, often characterized by tongue licking.

The violent stage: the cat is highly excited, attacks people and animals, often alternates between violent and depressed. When tired, it lies on the ground motionless, but soon stands up again, showing a special squint and panic expression. When exposed to external stimulation again, new attacks, frantic attacks, and self-biting of limbs, tail, and genitals may occur.

During the paralysis period of 1 to 2 days, the cat’s mandible droops, the tongue protrudes from the mouth, drools significantly, the hindquarters and limbs are paralyzed, falls to the ground, and finally dies due to paralysis or failure of the respiratory center.

The entire course of the disease lasts from 1 to 10 days. Rabies can be prevented but not cured. Therefore, after three months, it is recommended to take the cat to the pet hospital for rabies vaccination.
