Schnauzer feeding precautions
What are the feeding precautions for Schnauzers? The puppy period of a Schnauzer is an important stage of dog growth and development. The body grows rapidly, so it must be supplied with sufficient nutrition. The diet of a newly purchased Schnauzer puppy should be based on the diet of the original dog owner first, and then gradually change. Do not Feeding too much meat to the Schnauzer will not only fail to make the Schnauzer strong, but will cause indigestion, difficulty in absorption, and diarrhea.

1. The young period is the main stage of growth and development of dogs. The body grows rapidly, so sufficient nutrition must be supplied

The juvenile period is the stage with the fastest growth and development, the easiest time to cultivate, and the highest number of morbidities and deaths. Therefore, at this stage we must understand the growth and development patterns and physiological characteristics of Schnauzer puppies and provide scientific care. Schnauzer puppies after weaning often appear restless and prone to illness due to sudden changes in living conditions. At this time, food with good nutrition, good taste, and easy digestion should be chosen. Schnauzer puppies under 3 months old should be fed at least 3-4 times a day. You can use the method of feeding less often. Feeding less and frequently can make Schnauzer puppies always feel not full. You won’t get bored or picky about food. Schnauzer puppies between 4 and 6 months old have increased food intake and rapid weight gain. The amount of feed they require daily also increases, and they need to be fed at least 3 times a day. Dogs after 6 months old can be fed twice a day.

2. The diet of newly purchased Schnauzer puppies should be fed according to the diet of the original dog owner first, and then gradually changed

The gastrointestinal function of Schnauzer puppies under 2 months old is not very strong, so dog food should be soaked until soft and fed. If there are no conditions, you should also feed porridge, soy milk and add appropriate amounts of chopped fish, meat and chopped and cooked vegetables. Do not feed milk. If you must supplement breastfeeding, you should try to use special dog milk powder or high-calcium skimmed milk powder.

3. Schnauzer puppies after 2 months can use special Schnauzer puppy food

In order to reduce costs without affecting the nutrition of Schnauzer puppies, organs such as pig, cow, and chicken lungs can be cooked and chopped, mixed with vegetables, cornmeal and other cooked foods, and then fed to the dog. This is economical and dogs love to eat.

4. Do not feed your Schnauzer too much meat. Too much meat will not only fail to make your Schnauzer strong, but will cause indigestion, difficulty in absorption, and diarrhea

Although meat contains a lot of protein, it contains less vitamin A, vitamin D, vitamin E and iodine. At the same time, meat contains less calcium and more phosphorus. Eating meat for a long time can easily cause changes in the calcium and phosphorus ratio in the body of Schnauzer puppies. The imbalance leads to bone formation disorders, which are prone to breakage or lameness. It is not advisable to feed large amounts of meat too early to large dogs such as Great Danes, otherwise it may cause the forelimbs to bend. It is best to let the dog drink some glucose water (1-2 tablespoons of glucose powder, add an appropriate amount of clean water) after every daily exercise. The feed of Schnauzer puppies should be supplemented with calcium and vitamins, such as calcium tablets and Jinshierkang, which are necessary for the growth of teeth and bones. After 1 year old, because the dog has entered the mature stage, the growth of teeth and tendons has stabilized, and the demand for calcium is relatively reduced, but there should be an appropriate amount of indoor calcium every day.Outdoor exercise, through ultraviolet irradiation, facilitates the absorption of calcium.

5. It is best to fix the feeding time and location, and pay attention to cleaning and disinfection of tableware. Each feeding should be carried out at a fixed time. It is best not to change the location back and forth, and the feeding amount should be similar to prevent the Schnauzer from overeating or undereating. From the time a Schnauzer is born to an adult dog to an elderly dog, the feeding throughout its life should be treated specifically according to the physical condition of the Schnauzer at each stage. If you are not too clear about this and are afraid of the impact of improper feeding on your dog, it is recommended to consult a relevant pet doctor to develop a set of healthy eating rules for your dog.

6. The salt content in food should be controlled carefully. It should not be too salty (about 1.4%), otherwise it will cause easy hair loss and increase the burden on the organs, because Schnauzers are extremely sensitive to sodium (Na). , giving 3.7 grams of salt (NaCl) per kilogram of body weight can cause death; human ingredients such as garlic, ginger and onions, as well as spicy foods such as onions and peppers are not suitable for feeding Schnauzers, and chocolate should be paid attention not to let snow If a dog accidentally eats it, because the dog cannot secrete theobromine and caffeine, poisoning will occur: such as rapid heartbeat, extreme excitement, convulsions, increased body temperature, etc. In severe cases, it will affect the central nervous system and lead to heart failure and death. Before and after meals It is not advisable to let Schnauzers do strenuous exercise, otherwise it will affect digestion.

7. In the nutritional ratio of feed, it is best to have 30% protein and 20% fat. For Schnauzers that are still in their puppy state, attention should also be paid to properly supplementing the dog with calcium. For adult dogs, feeding two to three times a day is appropriate. When the Schnauzer eats, don’t let it eat too fast, especially gobble it up. Wait until the Schnauzer has finished eating, take the food bowl away immediately, and don't let it get into the habit of not eating well and then eating after a while.
