How to toilet train a Samoyed?
First of all, narrow the range of Samoyed’s activities and limit it to where it is convenient. At first, I closed it in the toilet. Then cover the area where it moves with newspapers. Remember that if you want to put a drinking water basin and a dog house, they must be placed in a corner, as far away from the excretion area as possible, and do not put them on newspapers.
If you find that it peed on the newspaper, reward it with food, and at the same time praise it vigorously, such as: "Pee on the newspaper, well done!" Rewarding the dog immediately after peeing is most effective, and the reward afterward should be pointed at constantly. Give it a newspaper to sniff (don’t force it to press its head to sniff), praise it more, and repeat simple words of praise (don’t change the vocabulary randomly in the future)
After two days, reduce the area of newspaper spread. When changing newspapers, be careful to leave an area with urine stains. Ditto for vigorously rewarding just excreting in newspapers.
When most Samoyeds excrete in newspapers, reduce the number of newspapers (and then gradually reduce them), and slowly expand the scope of activities. I open the toilet door and close other doors that can be closed. Ditto for vigorously rewarding just excreting in newspapers. If you are elsewhere, you should pay attention. This is the key to success or failure in the future. It is best to use a free day at home on the weekend to train, because you have to catch the scene.
Once you find that your Samoyed is about to do something bad, immediately remind him loudly using the usual words such as: "On the newspaper" or "Go to the toilet". At the same time, point him in the direction of the toilet and lead him to the toilet. I think the effect of carrying it to the toilet is not very good. Often it will be distracted or scared. As a result, it will not urinate when it gets to the toilet, and it will do bad things as soon as it leaves. If it's too late, point to the urine stain and scold the dog severely, then take it to the toilet and say "newspaper" repeatedly. If he didn't know he was wrong, he would be dragged to the scene and his head pushed down.
The puppy has become accustomed to urinating and defecating on newspapers, and you can take it outside. Laying newspaper outside where you want your dog to pee is a constant reward. When the Samoyed is almost four months old, it can defecate regularly about three times a day, and you can take it out at a good time.
As long as the Samoyed is given the opportunity to defecate in a suitable place, the Samoyed will usually show its clean nature.
Patience training is the most important. If a Samoyed puppy defecates at home, it is useless to criticize it, hit it, or even press its nose into the feces. It will not take this kind of punishment with it. Associating it with other "crimes", it will only become more and more wary of its owner.
