What are the causes of dystocia in cats?

Causes of dystocia in cats:

1. The most common reasons for kittens are excessive fetal size, abnormal fetal position, fetal orientation, and fetal posture. Oversized fetuses are more common in female cats with fewer kittens in a single litter, and older breeding cats are also more likely to have this problem.

2. Feline distemper, the most common infectious disease, can cause miscarriage, stillbirth and fetal rot in cats. Secondly, certain toxic diseases can also make cats who are about to give birth weak and weak in contractions, causing dystocia. Digestive system and parasitic diseases can also consume a lot of energy in cats, causing them to be weak and difficult to give birth.

3. Abnormal birth canal is mainly due to incomplete development of the cat’s pelvis. The pelvis is narrow and deformed, making it difficult for the fetus to enter the birth canal, resulting in dystocia. In addition, if the cat is young and has only reached sexual maturity but not physical maturity, it will also lead to dystocia due to incomplete birth canal development after conception.

4. The age and body size of the mother vary depending on the breed. Premature mating can lead to dystocia.

Phenomena of dystocia in cats:

1. If the cat’s amniotic fluid breaks but it still does not give birth, it may be dystocia.

2. You can obviously feel that the kitten has entered the birth canal, but after contractions for more than 20 minutes, nothing is born.

3. You can see the kitten’s head or tail, but it has been more than 10 minutes and it still has not been born smoothly.

4. The body temperature of the female cat is higher than 40 ℃ or lower than 36 ℃.

5. During labor, bleeding lasts for more than 10 minutes.
